Why is it so hard to find good quality Coldfusion developers?

As a Software development recruiter, I find it far easier to locate strong Java/J2EE, .Net, PHP or Ruby on Rails developers than Coldfusion.

Can anyone shed any light on to why it seems to be more difficult? If anyone could let me know of any other place to go to find developers then please let me know on b.cranford@clearview-itrs.co.uk.

Thanks in advance.

Try to find in the Philippines. I'm from the Philippines and I am a Coldfusion developer.
I'll venture a guess: Because there are not that many CF jobs to begin with. Most people will train themselves in other languages such as PHP or ASP simply because there's more job opportunities in these.

To get an idea of what's out there for work in various languages, check out Indeed's job trends graph at http://www.indeed.com/jobtrends?q=php%2C+asp%2C+sap%2C+coldfusion%2...

I've included several other languages besides CF, PHP, and ASP. Notice where CF falls on the graph...

I think it is because Coldfusion isn't viewed as a good development language. The people making decisions hear .NET, Java, or PHP... so coldfusion isn't really looked from a management point of view.

What they don't seem to understand is that it is far cheaper to train entry level personnel in Coldfusion versus other languages.

It's much easier for mid-level personnel to come to a job and be able to pick up the code and design principles (if they were applied).

It's much quicker to do a lot a things on really short notice.

my 2 cents.
